The Real Talk
This isn't a law firm, and it doesn't work like one. There are no billable or chargeable hours, no timesheets and no targets to hit each day. Instead you work like an in-house lawyer, embedded in an established advisory practice and supporting its clients, who are top-quality businesses, on their employment issues. You get the variety of working across many clients, with the focus and breathing room of an in-house role. The practice is bringing you in to take on its junior employment matters, which lets its more senior people step up and take on bigger things. That means real work from day one, and a genuine part in a growing offering.
The route in is deliberately open. You don't need to be a qualified solicitor: paralegals, legal executives and lawyers are all welcome, as long as you have solid employment law experience behind you.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing
- Handling junior employment matters for the practice's clients, working like an in-house lawyer across a range of businesses
- Advising on day-to-day employment issues such as contracts, policies, absence, disciplinary and grievance processes, and general HR queries
- Supporting more senior colleagues on larger or more complex matters, and learning from them as you go
- Building relationships with clients and colleagues, becoming a trusted point of contact
- Helping the team work efficiently, freeing up its senior people to take on higher-level work
What We Need From You
- Around 2 years' experience in employment law, gained in a law firm, in-house or in a similar setting
- Legal training or qualification: a qualified solicitor, legal executive or paralegal with strong employment law experience is welcome, and you do not need to be a solicitor
- Comfortable advising clients directly and working with a degree of independence
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain employment law clearly to non-lawyers
- Happy working remotely, with the option to be based at the Milton Keynes office if you prefer
The Offer
- Salary: £40,000 – £55,000
- Flexibility: Fully remote working, with the option to be based in Milton Keynes
- The bit worth highlighting: Genuine in-house style working across top-quality clients, with no billable hours, in a role open to paralegals, legal executives and lawyers
